The Simply Smart Home 8-inch frame ($115) and Aeezo 9-inch frame ($104) will do the job, but their apps aren't nearly as streamlined as their pricier counterparts.It'll save you headaches in the long run. If you want more features, spend a bit more for a smart display instead. The Atat ($62) and Jeemak (which is not currently available) have a ton of extra features, like calendars, alarm clocks, and music, but these bargain touchscreens reminded me of my first touchscreen phone-that is, they are buggy.Now that the Monster frame above has dipped to around $70, we suggest going with that one instead if you don't want to spend the money on the better options. There are options that cost less than our favorites, but they don't look as nice, and you may not get a reasonable expectation of privacy and protection. I thoroughly investigated cheap digital frames. ![]() ![]() You can use Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa to control some features, but you still need Aura's app. The Carver and Buddy can only be used in landscape orientation, but you can rotate the brand's other frames to portrait. Set it to slideshow or use the touch panel on the top of the frame to cycle through your album. The app is also very straightforward, and there's a scan feature to help better display physical photos or your kid's drawings. Guests have said they didn't realize it was a digital screen until the photo changed, which is exactly what I want. Maybe the best part is that Aura frames don't look like shiny computer screens. Plus they're dead simple to set up, use, and share with family and friends. All of them have high-quality displays, even this one at 1280 x 800 (compared to the other 1920 x 1200 frames), and unlimited photo storage. This 2022 version of the Carver drops the price to $149-from there, styles go all the way up to $400, but they're often discounted. There's no beating Aura when it comes to digital frames.
